(WKOW) -- A crash that closed Highway 78 near Blanchardville for over four hours Tuesday was fatal, according to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Michael Peterson said the two-vehicle crash was reported around 11:30 a.m. on Highway 78.
Peterson said Gary Gruenenfelder, 69, of Blanchardville was driving south on the road when another vehicle crossed the centerline and crashed into him.
The other vehicle was driven by Thomas Naughtin, 54, of Blanchardville.
Gruenenfelder was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.
Naughtin was also taken to the hospital. He is expected to survive.
Peterson said Naughtin is may face several charges, including homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. Naughtin has five prior OWI convictions, according to Peterson.
This is the seventh fatal crash in Iowa County in 2023.
