MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison police officers are still trying to piece together why a woman was walking on the Beltline Friday night when she was hit and killed by a passing vehicle.
The Madison Police Department reports the hit and run happened on the Beltline at Fish Hatchery Road.
A Lexus SUV hit a woman who was walking on the road, and despite first responders best efforts, she died at the scene.
The victim is identified as Jaitaja J. Graham, 23, of Madison.
A forensic examination was completed at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Monday. Preliminary results confirm Graham died from the injuries she got in the crash.
Additional testing is underway at this time.
An MPD official said they don't believe Graham's death was a suicide attempt and that she was walking with -- not against -- traffic.
The official said investigators don't believe the SUV stopped at all after hitting Graham.
The SUV was found the next day thanks to community tips, but no arrests have been made.
Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact the Madison Police Department at 608-255-2345. Tips can be anonymous.
