Pedestrian hit and killed in Sauk City

SAUK CITY, Wis. (WKOW) -- Police say a pedestrian was hit and killed Wednesday night while crossing Phillips Boulevard/Highway 12.

Sauk Prairie Police Chief Josh Sherman said officers were called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. Sherman said the pedestrian was crossing the road mid-block when a vehicle hit them.

Witnesses called 911 and provided life-saving measures before first responders got there. Once first responders arrived, they continued life-saving measures and then took the pedestrian to Sauk Prairie Hospital.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the hospital. Their name has not been publicly released, since family members are still being notified.

Chief Sherman said the driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The driver was not hurt.

Sherman said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Traffic lanes on the road were reopened by 10 p.m. Wednesday.
