American Girl to close its Middleton office

MIDDLETON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Mattel said it will close its American Girl office in Middleton.

The company announced plans Thursday to centralize the majority of the American Girl brand to its headquarters in El Segundo, California. That includes marketing, product design and development, public relations and creative services positions.

That also means closing its Middleton office by late spring of this year. People who work there are invited to apply for available positions in El Segundo, the company said.

Remaining Wisconsin-based teams will continue to work remotely. Mattel said there are no changes to American Girl's Distribution Center in DeForest, Wisconsin.

Mattel said the decision was made "to further align the company’s talent, drive innovation, and improve efficiencies."

American Girl was founded in southern Wisconsin 38 years ago.

In a statement, a Mattel spokesperson said American Girl "has made an indelible mark on the community and the millions of girls we serve so passionately. We express our deep gratitude for the positive impact our team has made on the brand and in the community. Their contributions and service remain an important and lasting part of the American Girl legacy."
