MANITOWOC, Wis. (WKOW) -- A mom and her boyfriend have been charged in connection to the disappearance of 3-year-old boy.
Katrina B. Baur, 31, of Wisconsin Dells, was charged Monday with neglecting a child with the modifier as a party to a crime, and two counts of resisting or obstructing an officer.
Jesse Vang, 39, of Two Rivers, was charged with neglecting a child with the modifier as a party to a crime.
Elijah Vue, 3, was last seen Feb. 20 in Two Rivers. His disappearance launched a statewide AMBER Alert.
According to court documents, Vang said he fell asleep while watching Elijah, and when he woke up, the child was missing. Vang, who was Elijah's caregiver at the time, called 911 at 11 a.m. to report didn't know where Elijah was.
Vang reported he drank three 12 ounce cans of beer and took one Cyclobenzaprine as a sleep aid the evening before Elijah went missing.
The criminal complaint states Baur told investigators Elijah had been staying with Vang in an effort to "correct some of his bad behaviors." Court documents state Baur wanted to Vang to teach Elijah "by example how to be a man."
The criminal complaint states Vang disciplined Elijah by giving him cold showers and making him stand in the corner for 1 to 3 hours at a time.
Law enforcement has continued to search for the boy. The efforts have expanded into his home city, Wisconsin Dells.
The searches have focused on land and water, with volunteers from across the region working with police and firefighters to provide assistance.
Elijah is 45 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He has a birthmark on his left knee.
A spokesperson for the Vue family said they will be taking a break from the search on Monday. They will be back at work on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday through Sunday.
Baur had her initial appearance at the Manitowoc County Courthouse on Monday, appearing on video. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 7.
If convicted, Baur faces up to $30,000 in fines and 5 years in prison.
Vang also had his initial appearance in court on Monday, appearing on video. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 7. Bail remains at $20,000 cash with the condition that Vang have no contact with anyone under 18 or with Baur.
If convicted, Vang faces up to $10,000 in fines and 3 years, 6 months in prison.
