MADISON (WKOW) -- A husband and wife are wanted by police following a shooting in downtown Madison.
The Madison Police Department (MPD) reports the shooting happened Sunday on W. Gorham Street near State Street shortly before 3 a.m.
MPD detectives told 27 News arrest warrants have been issued for Kevin and Nicole Brown.
Kevin Brown, 39, of Madison, is accused of shooting a man outside of Asian Kitchen on State Street after some sort of argument inside the restaurant.
Brown's wife, Nicole Brown, was with him at the time of the crime, according to police.
Kevin Brown is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Nicole Brown is charged with harboring or aiding a felon.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim suffered life-threatening injuries after being shot multiple times.
The complaint shows Kevin and the victim didn't know each other prior to the incident. However, Madison police detectives report Kevin and the victim got into an argument after passing each other inside the restaurant.
The argument carried over to outside the restaurant, where it escalated.
The criminal complaint states, "According to the reactions of the people inside [Asian Kitchen] ducking and trying to seek cover, shots were fired at 2:51:05 a.m. After the shooting outside, an employee went and locked the door and several people remained inside."
Madison police Lieutenant Jason Ostrenga said witnesses flagged down officers and they found the victim on the ground outside the restaurant.
"Officers actually heard the gunfire and citizens were running out to officers as well indicating someone had been shot," Ostrenga said. "As I mentioned, within seconds, they do some emergency medical to him before fire can get there."
Ostrenga said witnesses reported the suspects leaving the scene in a Dodge Charger.
Using both city cameras and nearby business security cameras, he said they identified the suspects as Kevin and Nicole Brown.
Court records show the victim was shot three times and he was bleeding heavily from two of those wounds. Officials report the man was barely conscious and was rushed to the hospital.
The criminal complaint shows the bullets hit the victim's liver and “lots of other things.”
Doctors are quoted stating the victim was losing lots of blood in surgery, and while they believed he would survive the surgery, they said “he’s going to be in critical condition for a long time.”
Ostenga told 27 News the victim is still in the hospital going through various treatments.
"He's not out of the woods yet," Ostrenga added. "Definitely critical... to the point we haven't been able to get a statement yet either from him."
If not for the officers who first got on scene, Ostrenga said the victim may not have survived long enough to make it to the hospital.
"They saved his life if he does make it," Ostrenga said.
He said the motive is unclear.
"There wasn't an exact motive for this, for why our suspect shot our victim," Ostrenga said. "It could be a matter of simply disrespect from that day to an altercation that occurred inside the restaurant, which then bled into the street, which led to ultimately the suspect shooting the victim."
He told 27 News he's hopeful the suspects will turn themselves in.
"I know it's easier said than done," Ostrenga said. "And you're facing things... being arrested, no one wants to go to jail, but we're not going to go away."
He said Kevin and Nicole Brown have children together and he encourages them to think about what this would be like for them if someone hurt one of their family members.
"Think of the person that is injured, that's critical," he said. "It's time to man up ... woman up as well, I should say."
Police are seeking the whereabouts of Kevin Brown and Nicole Brown.
