FITCHBURG, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Fitchburg Police Department is looking for a robbery suspect after he allegedly targeted a mother removing her child from her car.
Captain Edward Hartwick said in a news release, officers responded to a business parking lot on Caddis Bend at about noon Tuesday for a report of a robbery.
Officers learned a man attacked a woman from behind, as she was taking her child out of the car. Police said he punched the woman and knocked her and her child to the ground. The suspect then took the woman's purse and ran away.
Police said the woman had minor injuries from the attack.
The victim told police the suspect had a knife during the incident but didn't use it in the attack.
Officers from multiple departments, including K9 units, searched the surrounding area but were unable to find the man accused in the robbery.
Police provided the following description of the suspect:
A white male in his twenties, approximately 5’6” inches tall and approximately 160 pounds. He was wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, dark pants, and a black hat.
