Armed person dies after being shot by officer in Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. (WKOW) -- One person is dead and two officers are on administrative leave after a stabbing in Beloit.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) says around 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Beloit police responded to a 911 call for a reported stabbing near the 2000 block of Frederick Street. When officers got there, they found a woman who had been stabbed.

DOJ officials say officers then saw another person who was armed with an edged weapon who they say was making violent threats to harm a second person believed to be in the home.

The DOJ says one officer utilized a less lethal option, but it was not effective. A second officer then shot the armed person.

Officers tried to save that person's life, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman who was stabbed was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

DOJ officials say they later determined no other people were in the home.

One law enforcement officer was treated for minor injuries.

Edged weapons were recovered at the scene.

The officers are now on administrative leave, which is agency policy.
