Madison man arrested after driving 128 mph through Columbia County

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- A Madison man was arrested for driving recklessly through the Otsego Township, police said.

A Columbia County Sheriff's deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving above the posted speed limit on County Highway A around midnight Thursday morning. As the deputy turned around to pull the driver over, they sped up to about 128 miles per hour, driving recklessly and turning their lights off during the chase, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver, identified as Gregory Wylesky, 37, continued to elude law enforcement, the Columbia County Sheriff's Office said. The deputy stopped pursuing the driver after capturing the identity of his license plate, calling on Madison Police to respond to Wylesky's home address.

Madison Police located the vehicle as it pulled into the address, and Wylesky was arrested and transported to the Columbia County Jail on charges of felony eluding, second-degree reckless endangering of safety, and violation of probation.

Police also said Wylesky will receive several traffic citations for his driving.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office issued this note in the press release, stating that they have "zero tolerance for this type of reckless behavior that puts the operator and innocent motorists in danger. This is the fourth occurrence within the last month where pursuits reached over 120 MPH. We will continue to hold these drivers that make these poor decisions accountable for the danger they pose."
