Suspect in Madison attempted homicide case no longer in Eau Claire area

EAU CLAIRE (WQOW/WKOW) -- Authorities are still trying to find a person of interest in a Madison attempted homicide case who was seen in Eau Claire on Tuesday, but is no longer believed to be in that area.

Officers are looking for Jerome Jacobs, 37, who is wanted by the Madison Police Department. MPD says Jacobs is a person of interest in Sunday night's attempted homicide case.

Officers would like to talk to Jacobs in connection to the drive-by shooting that occurred on Andrew Way that hurt two people. One of the victims remains in critical condition.

Jacobs currently has a felony DOC warrant.

Eau Claire Police Chief Matt Rokus said Jacobs was seen by police in Eau Claire but when police tried to stop him he crashed his car and ran away. He is potentially armed, police said.

People were asked to stay away from the Randall Park neighborhood in Eau Claire as officers looked for Jacobs. Randall Park is the neighborhood between Water Street and Carson Park. Police later lifted the shelter in place recommendation after an extensive area in which Jacobs was not found.

Gov. Tony Evers was supposed to visit Eau Claire Tuesday but the trip was canceled due to the situation.
