Monroe HS Coach Toby Golembiewski dies after fight with cancer

MONROE, Wis. (WKOW) -- Toby Golembiewski, who coached the Monroe High School football team for the past eight years, including an undefeated state championship season in 2022, has died after a fight with cancer.

The School District of Monroe announced Golembiewski's passing on Monday.

"It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of MHS Football Coach Toby Golembiewski," the district posted on social media. "Coach G fought cancer head-on and has now moved on to coaching us from above."

Golembiewski was the head coach of the Monroe Cheesemaker football team for the past 8 years. He led his teams to the playoffs seven out of those eight years, including a finish as the undefeated Division 3 State Champions in 2022.

"Coach G made a lasting impact on the lives of his family, friends, players, coaches, and the entire community," the district said.

Friends and family commenting on the post mentioned Golembiewski's strengths as a leader, teacher and father figure to the players he coached.
