Monroe woman guilty in connection to poisoning husband's morning coffee

MONROE, Wis. (WKOW) -- A Monroe woman entered a plea agreement to a lesser charge after being accused of trying to kill her husband by poisoning his morning coffee.

Court records stated Amanda Chapin, 51, pleaded no contest to first-degree recklessly endangering safety Friday after prosecutors modified the charge from attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

A Lafayette County judge accepted her plea and found her guilty.

According to court documents, Chapin's husband, 70, remembers drinking his coffee she brought him the morning of August 21, 2022 then waking up in the hospital. The criminal complaint stated she poisoned him with anti-seizure and euthanasia medication he used on dogs for his veterinary practice.

Chapin told police she did not poison him, and that his illness was from taking Ivermectin since he did not want to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

Chapin is scheduled to be sentenced July 25.
