Madison police shut down 4th of July gathering at Elver Park

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Madison police shut down a Fourth of July gathering at Elver Park Thursday night after reports of a fight.

Police say when they got to Elver Park around 9:20 p.m., there were about 500 people in the park. Officers say some were lighting off fireworks in various locations.

When officers and park rangers tried to close the park, several people lit off fireworks at them, according to MPD.

Madison police say ultimately no one was injured, but the fire department had to put out several small fires and douse the remaining fireworks.

No one was arrested.

Officers directed traffic in order for everyone to get out safely.
