Sauk Co suspect involved in standoff in central Wisconsin

UPDATE (WAOW) -- The Portage County Sheriff's Office says law enforcement is still in a standoff with an armed and dangerous man in the Amherst area.

Authorities say the man is 32-year-old Jeffery Miller of Sauk County. He is wanted for an attempted homicide of a law enforcement officer.

Authorities made tactical contact at 450 Mill Avenue in the village of Amherst. They arrested five people, but Miller fled into the home and started to shoot at police.

At this time, Miller has not peacefully surrendered and is still inside the home. Police will remain on the scene until the situation is handled. Residents are asked to avoid the 400 block of Mill Street and the surrounding area and shelter in place until the incident is resolved.
