Janesville man in custody following Sunday standoff

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WKOW) -- A Janesville man is in custody following an active scene on Sunday evening.

According to the Janesville Police Department, 37-year-old Patrick E. McConnell had an active arrest warrant from the Milwaukee Police Department for a felony charge of strangulation and suffocation - domestic abuse.

Milwaukee police contacted Janesville police and asked for their help in finding McConnell.

That's when JPD asked people to avoid the 1100 block of N. Randall Avenue. Officers contacted McConnell over the phone and say he refused to exit the home. Officials believed McConnell was armed with a gun.

The Janesville Special Weapons Tactics (SWAT) Team was activated. Negotiators talked to McConnell on the phone and he eventually exited his home and was taken into custody.

McConnell is on probation with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. He is being held at the Rock County Jail.
