Wisconsin Department of Justice releases journal entries from teen gunman

MOUNT HOREB, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice is releasing photos and videos of a shooting outside Mount Horeb Middle School on May 1st. In the footage, moments before, during and after are revealed.

The DOJ included journal entries from the 14-year-old gunman. They date as far back as January 26th. In it, he writes "battle plan" on the top of the page and has eight tasks underneath.

Those tasks included telling his mom he was sick, stealing the car and sneaking in at lunch time. He also wrote "burn library," head to the lunch room" and "get the popular kids." The last task was to "hide to go die in the high school."

Another page, dated January 29th, said "I'm not going to journal for a while but listen, I'm changing the date. The attack will be May 1st. I have a count down on Snap[chat] with the exact hour."

The DOJ also included a message from the subject that reads "To the officers that had to shoot me. I'm sorry. It's not your fault. Don't forget that."

The Dane County District Attorney Ismael R. Ozanne announced Monday that there is no criminal liability against the Mount Horeb police officers who shot and killed an armed juvenile in May.
