Man arrested after breaking into Madison home, claiming he was shot

MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Madison police arrested a man early Thursday morning after he broke into a home on the north side and claimed he had been shot.

According to Lt. Caleb Johnson residents in 700 Block of Troy Drive woke up at about 1 a.m. to find a man, identified as 36-year-old Kentrell Blair, standing in their bedroom, covered in blood.

Blair said he had been shot and jumped through a window to escape. He then ran out of the room, grabbing a lamp on his way out.

The residents quickly left the house and called 911.

Officers arrived, set up a perimeter, and eventually found Blair hiding in the basement.

Lt. Johnson said despite his claim, Blair hadn’t been shot. Officers believed he had cut himself on the broken window he used to enter the home.

Blair, who lives at a nearby transitional housing facility, had reportedly made paranoid comments earlier in the evening before jumping out of a second-story window.

Police found drug paraphernalia on him and believed he was under the influence of drugs.

Blair was treated at a hospital and then taken to jail on charges including burglary and trespassing.
