2 suffer life-threatening injuries in Lafayette County crash

TOWN OF FAYETTE, Wis. (WKOW) -- Two people suffered life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle crash in Lafayette County Sunday night.

Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill said the crash was reported at 7:06 p.m. near the intersection of Mt. Pleasant Road in the town of Fayette.

Gill said a 2004 Toyota Camry Solara was traveling north on Highway F when the vehicle went off the road east onto the gravel shoulder.

Gill believes the driver overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle, crossing over the southbound lane of traffic. It then struck a guardrail and bridge abutment of the bridge that crosses Otter Creek.

The vehicle came to rest on the bridge in the southbound lane of traffic.

Darlin Rene Moncada-Ortez, 20, and Maycol Martin Rodriguez, 17, both of Darlington, were partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Moncada-Ortez was transported by Mineral Point EMS to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County and then airlifted to UW Hospital. Rodriguez was airlifted from the crash scene to UW Hospital.

Speed, alcohol and a failure to wear a seatbelt are suspected of contributing to the crash, according to Gill.

Wisconsin State Patrol Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation.
