Identity of body recovered from retention pond in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) — The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday confirmed the identity of a body recovered from a retention pond near the 3500 block of Monroe Street.

The body has been identified as Brooke L. Strattan, 24, of McFarland. She was previously reported as missing. Her body was recovered on Oct. 3 after law enforcement received a tip from a community member.

Strattan's death is being investigated as a homicide by the Madison Police Department.

A forensic examination was completed at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office on Oct. 5. Cause and manner of death are pending. Additional testing is underway at this time.

MPD Chief Shon Barnes previously said the man who was last known to be with Strattan was being questioned, but he has not been named as a suspect at the time of publication. Police have not divulged how he knew Strattan.
