STOUGHTON, Wis. (WKOW) -- Public Health Madison & Dane County (PHMDC) is urging people who have pizza from Famous Yeti's Pizza in Stoughton to throw the food out because it could be unintentionally contaminated with THC.
PHMDC says the contaminated pizza was served from October 21 through October 24. The department says the concentration of THC in the pizza can vary by slice.
Stoughton EMS alerted PHMDC about the contamination late Thursday afternoon after they transported multiple people with similar symptoms who all reported eating at Famous Yeti’s Pizza. PHMDC said the oil in a container used to make the pizza tested positive for THC.
"We want to be sure anyone who has this pizza on hand throws it away so they don’t get sick," Bonnie Armstrong, PHMDC's Director of Environmental Health, said. "If you ate the pizza and are experiencing THC-related symptoms, please contact your health care provider or call 911 if your symptoms worsen."
PHMDC says possible THC-related symptoms include dizziness, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, panic attacks, paranoia, hallucinations, short term memory impacts, time distortion and sleepiness. Each person's reaction to THC could be different.
Famous Yeti's Pizza is in a building that has a shared industrial kitchen where many businesses make food and other products. PHMDC says its sanitarians, along with Stoughton police and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, are investigating the space. The owner of Famous Yeti’s Pizza is cooperating with the investigation.
On Thursday the pizza resturant was closed to the public. Their voicemail thanked customers for calling but 'due to unforseen circumstances' they were closed and hope to reopen soon.
PHMDC is asking people who ate the pizza and got sick to complete this questionnaire.
