Voting trends throughout Wisconsin

MADISON (WKOW) -- We now know that Donald Trump is the 2024 Presidential Elect. He won Wisconsin over Vice President Kamala Harris by roughly 30,000 votes. Here are some of the trends from the state.

"WOW" and Dane counties

Vice President Harris made inroads in the "WOW" counties, which are Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties. These areas are predominantly Republican, so a Democrat has very little chances ever winning them, but Democrats want to limit the winning margin as much as possible.

Harris in 2024 outperformed Biden in 2020. Her margin between Trump, though still large, was tighter than the margin between Biden and Trump.

Just like how Democrats want to limit the winning margin in the "WOW" counties, Republicans want to limit the winning margin in Dane County. And they did just that.

Bellwether counties

Sauk County is known as a bellwether county. That means Sauk County has mirrored national voting outcomes. President Joe Biden won the county in 2020 with 50% of the vote. President-elect Donald Trump won 50% of the vote there in 2024.

Though the Republican presidential candidate won Sauk County, Democratic U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin won Sauk County over her Republican challenger Eric Hovde.

Door County has also had the reputation of a bellwether county. However, it was blue in 2024.

Rock County

In 2020, 85,164 people voted in Rock County. Biden won 46,658 of those votes while Trump claimed 37,138 of them.

In 2024, nearly 3,000 more people voted in the county. Out of 88,111 votes, Harris took 46,642 and Trump took 40,217.

When you compare those numbers, Harris had 16 fewer votes than Biden did. Trump, on the other hand, increased his total by more than 3,000 votes.
