1 dead, homicide investigation underway near Warner Park

MADISON (WKOW) — One person died in a shooting on Madison's north side on Monday afternoon. 

According to a news release, officers were called to Brentwood Parkway, just south of Warner Park, around 2:45 p.m. When they got there, they found a man with a gunshot wound lying on the road. 

The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

Preliminary evidence indicates the shooting was targeted, but police are still in the process of reviewing physical and digital evidence and talking to witnesses. The Violent Crime Unit remained on the scene Monday evening. 

At the time of publication, no arrests had been made. 

Authorities say an initial suspect was questioned by police but provided a statement and was later cleared.
