POSEN, Ill. (WKOW) — Police in Posen, Illinois have released body camera video of Morgan Geyser's arrest.
In 2014 when Geyser was 12, she stabbed another 12-year-old friend, Payton Leutner, nearly to death. She and the other suspect, Anissa Weier, told police they stabbed Leutner to please the fictional online character, Slender Man.
Madison police say Geyser, now 23, removed her GPS monitoring bracelet and left her group home in Madison Saturday night. She was placed in the group home by the Department of Health Services (DHS) following a Waukesha County judge's decision to allow her conditional release from mental health treatment earlier this year.
Geyser was arrested in Posen, Illinois Sunday night after officers were called to a gas station to check on a man and woman sleeping behind the business.
Posen police said Geyser and the man she was with originally gave officers fake names. Officers discovered their real identifies and took them both into custody.
The man, identified by police as Chad Mecca, 43, called the 27 Newsroom Monday afternoon to tell his side of the story. Charly, as he goes by, said he left with Geyser to make sure she was safe and didn't know she was leaving until that night. Charly tells 27 News Geyser told him once they were in Chicago that she left the group home because they were going to take away her visitation time with Charly.
In the police body camera video, you can hear Geyser tell officers she did something "very bad." She later told officers at the police station to just "Google her name" to find out who she was.
Morgan Geyser was booked for a nationwide extradition for attempted first- degree murder. She is scheduled for an extradition hearing in Cook County, Illinois Tuesday.
Chad "Charly" Mecca was charged with criminal trespass and obstructing identification.
