State of the Franchise: Green Bay Packers

Pro Football Focus takes a look at all 32 teams in their State of the Franchise series. This week, it's the Green Bay Packers. With a head coaching change this offseason, a year after a transition in the front office, the Packers are at something of a crossroads.

Under Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy, the Packers employed the draft-and-develop model, which yielded big early results, but over the end of their respective tenures, was lacking the depth needed to compensate for some of the injuries to top players over the past two seasons. That's changed over the past two seasons, with an aggressive offseason spending spree addressing shortcomings on defense, and a blend of veterans and youth at skill positions as the team works to get faster on the field.

Ultimately, the Packers go as far as Aaron Rodgers goes again this year, as Green Bay works under first-year head coach Matt LaFleur. Green Bay will have to buck history to snap their playoffs-less streak of two seasons: make it to the postseason for the first time in franchise history under a first-year head coach.
