Packers address offense on day two

GREEN BAY – The Packers went with defense during Thursday night's day one of the NFL Draft. Day two was spent on the other side of the ball.

Using one of the picks received as partial compensation for Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay selected Oregon State tight end Luke Musgrave at No. 42 overall.

Musgrave comes from a football family. His uncle, Bill, has been an NFL assistant coach for Luke’s entire life, with stints in Oakland, Philadelphia, Carolina, Jacksonville, Washington, Atlanta, Minnesota, Denver, and now Cleveland.

Luke claims that Green Bay has always been his team.

“I've always been a Packers fan, even though my uncle might not have always coached for them,” Musgrave said shortly after his selection. “They've always been one of my favorite teams. From the town to the jerseys ... the Packers are a hard-nosed breed of football and I'm excited to join the history of the Packers."

After trading down twice; once with the Buccaneers and once with the Lions, the Packers selected Michigan State wide receiver Jayden Reed, who starred last fall in the Spartans double-overtime win against Wisconsin.

Ironically, many fans who may have cursed Reed last October will be cheering for him this October.

Just another twist and turn of the NFL Draft.

In the third round, Green Bay selected another tight end, South Dakota State’s Tucker Kraft.

"I was fully anticipating being a Packer,” Kraft told reporters via Zoom shortly after the pick. “That was one team my agent said was on the radar, so when I got that call, I was not surprised at all."

The team feels that so far, they’ve gotten what they were after in the draft, with nine selections remaining in Rounds 4-7.

"We felt good about what our picks were and just kinda waiting to see where it would fall,” Packers general Manager Brian Gutekunst said. “The board's held up pretty strong."
