ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA: Google Employees Discussed Measures to āCOUNTERā Trumpās āTravel Banā
In the immediate aftermath of President Trumpās initial executive order instituting a so-called āTravel Banā for specific nations, Google employees discussed several measures that could be deployed to counter the administrationās new immigration proposals.
According to the Wall Street Journal, key staffers ādiscussed waysā in which they could ātweakā the technology giantās search results to funnel users towards pro-immigration organizations, lawmakers, and other departments.
āDays after the Trump administration instituted a controversial travel ban in January 2017, Google employees discussed ways they might be able to tweak the companyās search-related functions to show users how to contribute to pro-immigration organizations and contact lawmakers and government agencies, according to internal company emails,ā writes the WSJ.
āThe email traffic, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, shows that employees proposed ways to āleverageā search functions and take steps to counter what they considered to be āIslamophobic,āā adds the article.
