Barry Alvarez discusses the Big Ten's postponement of fall sports

A historic event unfolded for the Wisconsin Badgers' athletic department, the Big Ten, and college sports as a whole on Tuesday.

Appearing on the Big Ten Network, and later in a pool interview with reporters, Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez discussed the Big Ten's decision to postpone fall sports until perhaps the spring, as well as the next steps now that the decision has been made.

Alvarez told both reporters and the Big Ten Network that it wasn't an easy decision, and it's a decision that no one likes, but it's been made.

Notably, Alvarez suggested a spring football season would only have six to eight games, if a spring season is even viable, acknowledging there hasn't been much in-depth discussion about spring seasons for any sport.

Alvarez also said there would be layoffs, although student services wouldn't be affected. Currently, the UW athletic department has implemented furloughs and salary cuts, including Alvarez, for the department's biggest earners.
