Madison snowplows are back on the streets

The Streets Division deployed crews to maintain the salt routes this morning when the snow began. The thirty-two salt route crews will maintain the major thoroughfares, Metro bus routes, and the roads and schools and hospitals throughout the storm.

Pavement temperatures were above freezing when the snow began, so the first few flakes have been melting. Temperatures are predicted to decline throughout the day, however, and slick spots could develop. Plus, current forecasts suggest this storm has the potential to impact the evening commute. All roadway users are encouraged to make good choices on their way through the city and stay alert for potential slippery spots, especially in residential areas that are not covered by our salt routes. People should be slow, patient, and cautious throughout the day.

As a reminder, the Streets Division will not plow all residential streets in Madison unless three or more inches of snow have accumulated on the roads and the storm is at or near its end. While current forecasts are not calling for that much of snow, Streets Division staff will be monitoring conditions carefully. Operations will adjust as conditions merit and future updates will be provided.
