Janesville Schools letter to parents

JANESVILLE (WKOW) --- Here is the letter Janesville Schools sent to parents regarding the lockdown in place and possible continued lockdown tomorrow.

This is the school district of Janesville with an update regarding the soft lockdown that has been in place since this morning.

All after school athletics and activities have been canceled.

School release will be done at the regularly scheduled time, using controlled release procedures. This means all staff will be outside monitoring students. There will be increased police presence as a precaution.

ELEMENTARY and MIDDLE SCHOOLS:  Students who walk home from school will need to remain at school until the parents can pick them up or make arrangements to have them picked-up by parents, legal guardian or  emergency contacts. Principals and school staff will remain at school today until all students have been picked up.

HIGH SCHOOLS: Students who walk home from school will need to remain at school until the parents can pick them up or make arrangements to have them picked-up by parents, legal guardian or emergency contacts. Those students who drive, will be released to their vehicles. Students that drive will not be able to take other students home without approval from their parent(s). Principals and school staff will remain at school until all students have been released/picked-up.

For students that use school buses for transportation -- be advised that students arrival home may be slightly delayed due to the controlled release.

Please contact your school’s principal with additional questions.

Updates from the Janesville Police Department and Rock County Sheriff's Office can be found on their websites / facebooks pages.

A decision regarding school tomorrow (Friday, April 7, 2017) will be made in consultation with local law enforcement. We will provide you with an update as soon as possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.
