April 26, 2017 – At 7:31 am, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies were in the process of serving a court ordered eviction at 2 West Gorham St., apartment 105, in the City of Madison, when the male tenant committed suicide.
City of Madison Police were assisting deputies from the Sheriff’s Office on the eviction. When the tenant refused to open the door to the apartment, deputies made entry and the 57-year-old man shot himself.
Paramedics responded and transported the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. No one else was injured in the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office is treating this as a critical incident, and per that policy the two deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave while the City of Fitchburg and the City of Madison Police investigate
