Monroe man arrested after three hour police standoff


A Monroe man is in custody after a brief standoff with police Wednesday afternoon.

The Monroe Police Department says they responded to a home on the 1800 block of 8th Street after after reports of a burglary in progress.

Police arrived to find 31-year-old Shane Riley, a relative of the homeowner, inside without their consent.

Riley, suspected of being under the influence, then barricaded himself in a room upstairs, where both ammunition and firearms were kept. 

After roughly three hours, police say Riley surrendered. He is charged with criminal damage to property, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct, and is currently awaiting his first court appearance in the Green County Jail.
