MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Police are investigating a shooting that happened at a gas station on the city's east side Tuesday night, leaving at least one person hurt.
Police say the shooting happened around 7:40 p.m. on the 3500 block of East Washington Avenue, when witnesses say a suspect from one group of people, opened fire on another group of people.
Caleb Roth, an employee who was working across the street at the time of the shooting, says he hates to see this kind of thing happen in his city.
"I heard the shots pop off there were about eight of them. Eventually all the people from the scene ran across the street, ran into subdivisions, ran into other neighborhoods and they were gone."
Roth says he witnessed one person get shot a several times, before somehow managing to run away.
Investigators believe the this was a targeted attack, and that both the suspect and the victim know each other.
The victim Roth saw run away, was later helped at a nearby address, and taken to the hospital. That person is expected to be ok.
