No one was hurt following what is being called a weak tornado on Madison's East Side Saturday evening.
A tornado warning was issued for the area just after 5 p.m. following a police report of high winds in the area of East Washington Avenue between Highway 30 and Stoughton Road. The National Weather Service says the tornado may have been on the ground for about ten minutes from 4:58 p.m. to 5:08 p.m.
Businesses and homes were damaged. Signs were blown down. Roofs were torn off some buildings. Many trees also were damaged. A team from the National Weather Service is expected to survey the damage on Sunday.
Nearly 600 Madison Gas and Electric customers lost power as result of the storm. All power was restored by early Sunday.
