Firefighter improving after Interstate crash in Sauk Co

UPDATE (WKOW) -- Fire officials have identified the firefighter hurt in a crash on I-90/94 during an extended snowfall.

Delton Fire Chief Darren Jorgenson says Joe Sabol, 39, was upgraded from critical to stable condition after he was hit while directing traffic on the interstate Saturday morning. The 13-year veteran had serious injuries. Jorgenson asks the public to be extra careful driving near emergency scenes and construction zones. The Baraboo man was standing near a fire truck with lights pulled over on the highway.

Sabol's wife Amanda, who is also a first responder, released the following statement, pleading for caution on the roads:

As my husband begins to recall more and more about this incident I have heard him talk about the many vehicles that were sliding around and going just way too fast for the conditions and around that crash scene. Since my husband’s injury, we have been getting a lot of offers of help and what I would really like is your help to remember that the men and women working out there have families too who need them to come home. Please make this incident the last of its kind and slow down.”
