UPDATE (WKOW) -- Dane County Sheriff's officials confirm to 27 News a pedestrian was hit and killed in a crash on U.S. 18 near Blue Mounds early Thursday morning.
A sheriff's official said no arrests have been made, and as of right now they do not suspect anything suspicious. The driver has been cooperative. It's unclear why the person who died was walking on the highway overnight.
According to a news release, the driver is a 34-year-old man from Dubuque, Iowa. He was driving south. The person hit and killed was a 30-year-old woman. Her family is being notified.
The southbound lanes of US 18 have opened as of 5:40 a.m. They were closed for about five hours.
This is still an open investigation.
