Rock County Sheriff's Office news release:
ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) -- Rock County has experienced a significant amount of rainfall over the past 24 hours. This precipitation, in combination with more recent snow falls and saturated soil, is causing flooding countywide.
There have been several reports of standing water following the heavy rains, which can pose a hazard to those traveling on the roadways.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is urging citizens to avoid traveling on roadways deemed impassable due to flooding.
Please do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways or any road identified as closed by the respective Public Works departments.Currently, sand and sandbags are available for Rock County residents at the following locations:
-- Rock Town Hall: Rock County will Sand and sandbags will be available at the Rock Town Hall at 5102 S CTH D, Afton WI. Residents will need to fill and transport their own bags.
-- Newville Park and Ride: Sand and sandbags will be available at the Newville Park and Ride located off I-39/90 at exit 163. Residents will need to fill and transport their own bags.
-- City of Janesville: The City of Janesville is providing sandbags for Rock County residents at 900 N. Parker Drive. Please call the City Services Center at 608-755-3110 for instructions for pickup.
-- City of Beloit: The City of Beloit is providing sandbags at 2351 Springbrook Court. Residents can pick up at this location.Report any immediate, hazardous conditions related to the flooding to Rock County Communications at 608-757-2244. All other concerns related to the current flood situation should be reported to the respective townships or through the Rock County Sheriff’s Office – Emergency Management Bureau at 608-758-8440.
