Madison leaders are phasing out late night food cart vending in the downtown area. The City Council approved a plan Tuesday night that will end the late night vending in most of the downtown by spring of 2023.
Currently, food carts can serve customers in various downtown locations from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Opponents say the carts contribute to alcohol-fueled violence downtown, especially at bar time.
The new program will designate food carts solely on Library Mall.
