MADISON (WKOW) - 19-year old Benjamin Cortes is out of the Dane County jail after being charged with negligent homicide in connection with a fatal crash on Midvale Boulevard.
A Dane County Sheriff's official tells 27 News Cortes was released Wednesday afternoon after $10,000 bail was posted.
Authorities say Cortes was driving his Mazda sedan 102 miles per hour Friday when he lost control and hit and killed 72-year old pedestrian Greg Nametz. Authorities say Nametz's wife, Patty was critically injured. The couple was walking their dog, who was unhurt.
Prosecutors say they are also considering a drugged driving charge against Cortes. They say marijuana was found in his car, and Cortes admitted using pot some hours before the crash.
