A Richland Center man is accused of multiple sexual assaults of a 12-year-old girl after his girlfriend brought the victim to his apartment, according to police.
According to a criminal complaint filed Monday in Richland County Court, Annette M. Winger, 43, and her boyfriend, John A. Elder, were involved in the assaults that took place between Sept. 1, 2017 and Jan. 1, 2018.
Investigators say Winger used false pretenses to bring the girl to Elder's apartment in Richland Center, then watched as Elder assaulted the girl.
Winger told the girl she needed to engage in the acts so that, "Elder's bad personalities would not take over his good ones," according to the complaint.
Winger also told the girl that Elder needed the good energy of sexual contact in order to defeat the bad energy that Elder has inside him, according to the complaint. Winger told the girl that if she didn't comply, Elder would become suicidal.
The complaint also indicates that on one occasion, Elder attempted to show the girl a pornographic video on his phone, stating that "it would be fun," but the girl didn't see it because she looked away.
The girl told investigators that Winger witnessed the acts and told the girl that she had to do it because Winger, "was unable to do them or was not feeling well that day," according to the complaint.
Elder is charged with first-degree child sexual assault - contact with a person under 13, second-degree sexual assault of a child and causing a child under 13 to view a sex act.
His initial appearance is scheduled for May 7, 2018.
Winger faces one charge of failure to act/sexual assault of a child. She will have an initial appearance May 4, 2018 in Richland County court.
