FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Traffic will switch along Verona Road this weekend as construction ramps up.
Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, traffic between County PD and Raymond Road will shift to the east side of the highway.
The switch is expected to cause delays, so officials are urging travelers to find alternate routes if possible. The construction depends on the weather, so the switch could be delayed if conditions are poor.
Businesses along Verona Road are hoping to stay afloat, despite stagnating sales caused by the long construction project. They've launched an app called "Verona Road Passport" to try to drive customers to their storefronts.
The app includes a list of businesses, app-only coupons and updates on the construction project.
Members of the Verona Road Business Coalition say the app is designed to bring people to the corridor, rather than avoid the road work.
