Janesville police have reportedly dropped their investigation against a Catholic priest who was charged elsewhere with sexually assaulting a minor.
The Janesville Gazette says investigators re-interviewed the person in a 2015 case against Rev. William Nolan and decided they have no basis for his arrest or further investigation.
The man who made the original report recently came to Janesville police again after a Nolan was charged with sexually assaulting a minor in Jefferson County.
Lt. Charles Aagaard told the Gazette the case is now closed again.
The man in the Janesville case told police in 2015 that six years earlier, he had become friends with Nolan while the priest was at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Beloit, and he became drunk at Nolan’s residence while the two were watching football. A friend of the man, whom Channel 27 News spoke to, says the man felt he had to report the incident. The complainant told police he awoke in a guest room the next morning, feeling that something strange had happened.
Nolan is currently facing separate charges for allegedly sexually assaulting an altar boy in Jefferson County. His preliminary hearing on the case there is set for June 5th.
