All Madison area beaches open

The good news for Madison swimmers is that all the Madison area beaches are open.

The bad news is the no-wake order is still in effect until Monday for three of the four Madison-area lakes that allow power boating.

Public Health Madison-Dane County water inspectors have tested all 19 area beaches or swimming areas for blue-green algae.

As of Friday afternoon, all the beaches tested free of blue-green algae or E.coli bacteria.

This is quite a change from about a week ago when only six beaches were open.

However, officials advise swimmers to be vigilant for algae blooms which can pop up at anytime,

Unfortunately, the water level on lakes Monona, Waubesa and Kegonsa is still too high for speedy power boating.

The Dane County Sheriff's Deputies will still be strictly enforcing the slow, no-wake order until at least Monday.

Only Lake Mendota is available for those who want to gun their engines.

Boaters need to be aware the wait times at Mendota boat launches might be longer than normal.
