Autopsies show parents of missing teen were shot, deaths ruled homicide

The Barron County Sheriff says the parents of a missing teenager were shot to death.

Autopsies on James and Denise Closs were done Wednesday. The medical examiner has ruled their deaths homicides. Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald says they were both shot, but there was no gun found at the scene. There’s no information yet on what type of gun was used.

Sheriff Fitzgerald says they believe the couple’s daughter, Jayme, was in the home at the time of the homicides and that she’s still in danger. They have done several searches for Jayme immediately surrounding the family’s property, but have not conducted any other searches for her because they have no credible tips or sightings.

The sheriff’s office has gotten 400 tips so far from across the country and has brought in additional personnel from surrounding agencies to help with the influx of information.

Sheriff Fitzgerald is asking people to walk around their own properties to look for evidence that might help them and report it right away. There is a special tip line for anyone who thinks they might have information about the homicides or Jayme’s disappearance. That number is (855) 744-3879.

Law enforcement say they’re working under the assumption that Jayme is still alive and are hoping to bring her home soon.

Sheriff Fitzgerald has scheduled a town hall meeting for Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. for Barron County residents only to have a private conversation about how everyone is doing.
