A long-time labor leader in Wisconsin had died.
Phil Neuenfeldt died Sunday at his home, the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO announced Monday. He was the president of the organization until he retired in September.
“Phil Neuenfeldt embodied the vision and values of organized labor, and he will be tremendously missed,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. “It was a tremendous honor for me to serve with and to call him a friend.”
Neuenfeldt was active during rallies at the state Capitol over Act 10 and other policies impacting unions, urging demonstrators to continue their fight.
“We’ve been out here fighting 122 days and tomorrow will be 123.. and 4!” Neuenfeldt told 27 News back in 2011.
According to the AFL-CIO, Neuenfeldt was a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW) Local 1916. He started his career on the shop floor at GE. He joined the AFL-CIO starting in 1986. Neuenfeldt is also a Navy veteran.
