A corrections officer a the Columbia County Correctional Institution was arrested Wednesday and faces charges of abusing an inmate.
Russell G. Goldsmith, 63, of Westfield, Wisconsin was arrested and faces charges of felony abuse of a resident of a penal facility and felony misconduct of public office, according to a news release from Sheriff Dennis Richards.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a request Oct. 30 from the Department of Corrections to investigate a use of force complaint at Columbia.
The investigation centered on the use of force against an inmate by a correctional officer.
The inmate was injured and had to receive medical treatment after the incident, according to a news release.
Goldsmith made his initial appearance on Wednesday, Nov. 14, according to online court records.
