There was a 15.5 percent decrease in reports of shots fired in 2018, according to a recent blog post by city of Madison Police Chief Mike Koval.
In 2017, Madison police received 220 reports of shots fired. Koval said that number decreased to 186 during 2018.
There was no difference in reports of shots fired when comparing only the months of December between 2017 and 2018. Both months police responded to 14 calls.
The data released on 2018 total shots fired comes just a day after Koval released similar totals on heroin overdoses.
