A Marshall man was found guilty today in the January 2018 killing of a Sun Prairie man
The jury returned the verdict in Dane County Circuit Court about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Daniel Lieske, 59, shot and killed Jesse Faber, 21, in Lieske’s home in Marshall in January of 2018. Lieske says he shot in self defense but the prosecution argues Lieske killed Faber after Faber rejected Lieske’s sexual advance and then threatened to tell others about it.
Jurors deliberated nearly six hours Tuesday.
Lieske’s trial was on the charge of first degree intentional homicide. But Dane County Judge Jill Karofsky included the lesser charges of second degree intentional homicide and first degree reckless homicide as additional options for jurors.
Just prior to the jury being dismissed for the evening Tuesday, Karofsky told jurors to rely on the documents they were provided for their deliberations, after they asked for clarification on certain elements of the first and second degree intentional homicide charges.
Lieske fatally shot Faber after Lieske broke up a party next door that Faber attended.
Lieske has already been convicted of hiding Faber’s corpse, as a massive search for Faber took place.
Lieske claims Faber attacked him and went for Lieske’s gun, but prosecutors highlight expert medical testimony showing most of the bullets were fired into Faber’s back.
Faber’s father, Daniel Faber testified in the trial and tells 27 News his son’s legacy was his ability to make people happy.
