The Mayor of Sun Prairie says the city is discussing plans to memorialize a firefighter killed in a deadly explosion.
During his State of the City address Wednesday, Mayor Paul Essar said the fire department is partnering with the city to plan a memorial for Captain Cory Barr. Barr was killed while responding to the explosion after a fire started at his business, Barr House Tavern.
The July 10th explosion left more than 50 businesses damaged. Some were destroyed.
There are few details about what kind of memorial it will be, but Mayor Essar said it will stand in the same place as the Barr House Tavern.
“There will be a building built at the corner where Cory’s business was,” said Mayor Essar. “The city will insist there be some kind of plaque identifying the events of July 10th.”
Essar said the city council is also discussing plans to develop the area where several other building burned down in the explosion.
