Fatal overdose on Highway 151

Madison, WI.  January 17, 2019 – At 5:38 pm on Wednesday, January 16th, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Sun Prairie Police and EMS, responded to a pick-up truck stopped in traffic on US Highway 151 at CTH V in the town of York.

A male in the driver’s seat was unresponsive and two passengers, a male and female, appeared to be suffering from an opiate related overdose.  Life saving efforts were provided to the male driver, but were unsuccessful.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

The female passenger was given Narcan, and both passengers were transported to Columbus Community Hospital by EMS.

An autopsy is scheduled today for the 59-year-old male.  

Names are being withheld pending notification to family and the completion of the autopsy by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.  

The northbound lane of US Highway 151 was closed for approximately two hours while the incident was being investigated.
