Sauk County supervisor to appear in court Wednesday on child porn charges

A Sauk County supervisor is expected to appear in court Thursday to face five felony counts of possession of child pornography, according to online court records.

An arrest warrant was issued Thursday, for District 29 Supervisor William F. Wenzel after authorities say child pornography was found on a computer in his home.

The criminal complaint against Wenzel filed by Assistant Attorney General David Maas says Wenzel allegedly used BitTorrent software to connect to a peer-to-peer file-sharing network.

During a January online investigation, authorities say a Wisconsin Department of Justice special agent connected to the network and was able to find a video file of child pornography associated with Wenzel’s home’s Internet Protocol (IP) Address.

On Friday, Feb. 22, authorities used a search warrant to search Wenzel’s home when the house was empty.

On a computer found during the sweep, a digital forensic examiner found multiple files “consistent with child pornography.”

An assistant Sauk County clerk says Wenzel joined the Sauk County Board of Supervisors through an appointment in June 1997.
